Too Late To Start Blogging?
April 4th, 2008I have to admit it’s a bit daunting, sitting down to write your first blog entry. How do you start? Have you ever read a blog’s very first post? Well, now you have.
The main purpose of this site at the moment is to serve as my portfolio, but I’m curious to see if I might actually have something useful to contribute to the blog-sphere. This is probably an incredibly naive notion, but if nothing else, it’s given me an excuse to tinker. We’ll see where this goes.
I never really got the blogging bug until I considered the usefulness of a content management system. Having created one (very basic - I would never let anyone look at the code!), I quickly realized that, while it’s nice to know how they work, it’s even nicer to download one and have it start working within 5 minutes. At least that’s what I thought would happen. But instead of using Wordpress, I chose to go with Movable Type. Now I am in no way implying that one is better than the other. Having spent a good bit of time customizing MT templates, I have a pretty solid understanding of its benefits. But Perl. Ouch. Not a big fan.
I am much more comfortable with PHP, and when my frustration reached its maximum threshold, I decided to download Wordpress and give it a shot. What took me 6 months to do with Movable Type (pathetic, I know) I did in close to 2 days with Wordpress. Again, it’s a matter of one being better suited to my personal skill set, nothing else. Although I will say that the Wordpress CMS has just proven to be WAY faster.
